What is the traditional Japanese color "gold"?
Gold refers to a yellow color with a strong, golden shine, and is also known as "kogane-iro" (golden color). Gold, with its unique luster, has been considered a symbol of eternity because it does not tarnish in its pure state. During the Fujiwara period, the Golden Hall of Chusonji Temple was built in hopes of achieving paradise, and its interior was decorated with gold leaf, making it famous for its use in religious contexts. Gold is also a symbol of power. During the Azuchi-Momoyama period, warlords produced many gold and silver folding screen paintings to lavishly decorate the interiors of their castles. In particular, folding screen paintings that make extensive use of gold leaf have a presence that draws the attention of all who see them, making them outstanding among decorative arts.
Gold = Kin-iro
The color of the large and small gold coins resembles the color of the Yamabuki flower, so they are sometimes called "Yamabuki-iro." "Gold" is pronounced "kin-iro."
