Joy of Sake Comes to London: Premier International Sake Fair Expands to Fourth Host City
Launched in Hawaii in 2001, “The Joy of Sake” has a longer history than any other international sake fair. This year, events will be held in four host cities: Honolulu, New York, Tokyo, and London, bringing the joy of sake to European enthusiasts for the first time.
“The Joy of Sake” has grown steadily since its founding almost two decades ago, just as interest in sake outside Japan has. This year, too, the event promises to bring together sake in a wide range of styles from kura (breweries) all over Japan and the United States. Popular restaurants in each of the host cities will also offer a variety of special appetizers crafted to complement the sake on offer, with the goal of sharing the unique appeal of sake even more widely around the world.
As the U.S. National Sake Appraisal’s public-facing tasting fair, the Joy of Sake has the longest pedigree of any international sake fair. All sake brought to the event, including prize-winning varieties, is freely available for tasting by the public, making it a rare opportunity to sample a vast range of products selected by each kura to showcase their work at its finest. If you’re near one of the host cities, don’t miss this one-night-only sake experience!
