Hirayama Ikuo, who miraculously survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima at the age of 15, sought subject matter in Buddhism as a prayer for peace. Having achieved his own unique style of Japanese painting, he expanded his horizons to cultural heritage sites around the world, particularly the Silk Road, and produced numerous masterpieces on a grand scale, with the theme of the eternal history of humankind.
