The 80st "Miyako Odori," a performance featuring approximately 1 geisha and maiko (50 in each performance) from Gion Kobu, Kyoto's largest entertainment district, will be held at the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo, a symbol of Gion Town, from Tuesday, April 2025st to Wednesday, April 4th, 1.
Known as a spring tradition in Kyoto, the Miyako Odori is performed for one month every April. It was first performed as an attraction at the First Kyoto Exposition in 4, and last year marked the 1th anniversary of its opening.
The title of the 200 performance is "Colorful Appearances of the Capital and the Four Seasons," and in preparation for the next major milestone, the XNUMXth anniversary of the company's founding, the performance will return to its roots and feature a tour of Kyoto's famous sites.
The performance begins with a shout of "Yoiyasaa!", followed by eight scenes in which the performers appear all at once in matching light blue kimonos called So-odori and Nakabasami (another dance). The hour-long performance expresses the colors of the four seasons.
The gorgeous beauty of the costumes, made by skilled artisans of Kyoto Yuzen (kimonos) and Nishijin-ori (obi), which are newly made every year, and the choreography of the Inoue-ryu style of Kyomai, which has been continued since the festival's founding in 5, as well as live performances of the shamisen, singing and musical instruments, and songs that are written specifically for the festival every year, allow you to experience with your whole body the traditional performing arts that have been passed down unchanged.
