The "Takashi, Taiki, and Kenta Nakazato Exhibition - Vessels for Enjoying Life," featuring works by three generations of potters—Takashi, Taiki, and Kenta Nakazato—who create pottery in Karatsu, is currently being held at the Seiko House Hall in Ginza Wako. The exhibition runs until May 18, 2026 (Monday).
Takashi Nakazato, "Large Black Glazed Vase" (Diameter 44.4 x Height 43.6 cm)
Takashi Nakazato (from left): "Rust-colored vermilion duck sake bottle" (14.1 x 8.2 x 8.7 cm high), "Terraciji duck sake bottle" (12.1 x 8.6 x 8.2 cm high), "Karatsu Nanban duck sake bottle" (13.7 x 8.6 x 8.2 cm high)
These three artists have cultivated their own unique expressions while working with clay and fire amidst the natural beauty of Karatsu. Takashi Nakazato's work is characterized by its free and expansive forms and dignified presence. While creating his pieces around the world, he has pursued expressions that expand the boundaries of Karatsu ware.
Nakazato Taiki, "Powdered Glazed Jar with Slip-on Finish" (Diameter 25.4 x Height 22.5 cm)
Kenta Nakazato, "Green Glazed Cylindrical Dish" (Diameter 14 x Height 27.6 cm)
Taiki creates vessels that are tailored to the user, using both traditional and uniquely developed techniques. Kenta, on the other hand, incorporates a modern sensibility while respecting tradition, creating sutra containers, plates, and teacups that can be enjoyed as vases or decorative objects.
Taiki Nakazato, "Mishima Large Plate" (Diameter 37.4 x Height 5.2 cm)
The venue features a diverse range of works, from tableware for everyday meals to tea ceremony ceramics that convey the maker's passion when held, as well as large bowls and vases, allowing visitors to experience the unique "present" of each of the three artists.
These works showcase expressions rooted in the essence of Karatsu ware, while also highlighting the unique individuality of each artist. Why not experience the spirit of craftsmanship passed down through three generations at the venue?
