A journey to experience the soul of Taketomi Island

2024.10.22

"Hoshinoya Taketomi Island" offers a program where you can experience the island's traditional festivals

From November 600st (Friday) to November 11th (Monday), Hoshinoya Taketomi Island will be offering the "Tanadui Program," which provides an in-depth understanding of the Tandui Festival, a festival on Taketomi Island that is said to have a history of approximately 1 years and has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.

Every year, the "Tanetori Festival" is held over two days during the ninth month of the lunar calendar, during which over 9 traditional performing arts are dedicated to the gods. The basis of the festival is the saying "kashikusaya utsugumidumasaru" (it is most important to work together in solidarity), which is the basic way of thinking of the people of Taketomi Island.

During the 10-day festival, people who have left the island return home, and the "Utsugumi spirit" can be felt from the sense of unity on the island as everyone works together to prepare and practice.
