KAI Tamazukuri is a hot spring inn located in Tamazukuri Onsen (Matsue city, Shimane prefecture), which has been in operation since the Nara period. All rooms at the inn have an open-air bath. From February 2025st to March 2st, 1, the inn will be holding an event called "Tegagoya no Hito Toki: The World of Sake Brewing as Told by the Brewers" where visitors can tour the brewery and enjoy special tastings.

World Tamazukuri
"Tegego no Hito Toki" is a local cultural experience where guests at any of the 23 KAI facilities across the country can meet artisans, artists, and producers who carry on the culture of their region, see their rare techniques up close, and get a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes.
This time, you can experience the depth of sake through a tour and special tasting at two long-established sake breweries, Sakemochida Honten and Rihaku Sake Brewery, in Shimane Prefecture, which is said to be the birthplace of sake.

Sakamochida main store
At the sake brewery "Sakamochida Honten," located on the Momen Kaido road that still retains the remnants of the Edo period, you can experience the traditional sake brewing process and the mixing of sake with a paddle. In the special tasting, you can change the temperature of the sake or add water to feel the change in taste and create your own favorite flavor.

Rihaku Shuzo
At Rihaku Sake Brewery, which produces a perfect balance of tradition and innovation, you can get a close-up look at sake brewing in a brewery that is normally off-limits to the public. Depending on the process on the day, you may also be able to experience washing rice and soaking. In the special tasting, you can compare four types of sake made with a rice polishing ratio of 58%, which is unique to Rihaku Sake Brewery, and enjoy drinking sake in ways that you normally wouldn't be able to, such as at different temperatures.
