Ceramic artist Shohei Ono's solo exhibition "Kaiki-Borderless 2025-SHOHEI ONO" is being held at CIBONE in Omotesando, Tokyo until Sunday, February 2025, 2.

This time, the theme is "returning to the basics," and 650 works that allow you to feel the inherent characteristics of earth, known as "earthiness," are on display.
Ono, who continues his creative endeavors in Kami City, Kochi Prefecture, digs up soil in the mountains and makes pottery from scratch, producing the raw materials for glaze. The "return to the basics" that Ono speaks of does not mean going back to square one, but rather touching the spirit that is always striving to surpass, moving his hands, and continuing to light the fire. By pushing the clay beyond its limits and continuing to burn it, the earthen flavor erupts from the clay. And then there are the never-before-seen metallic expressions that are mistaken for metal, and the lumps of iron that erupt like explosions. Ono is simply driven by the desire to bring into the world deformed or grotesque shapes of pottery.

At the venue, you can view a wide range of works, from everyday tableware such as tea bowls and teacups, to new pieces such as vases and rimmed plates that are as impressive as art pieces.
Why not try finding your favorite one from the 650 "Tsuchiaji" varieties?
