Zeze, a temple cafe and teahouse that was restored and renovated from Seson-in, a former sub-temple of Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara, has started offering a new type of afternoon tea experience where you can create a miniature garden with your own hands.

2026Years2Month28The "Garden Afternoon Tea" will be available until the 1st (Sat) and features baked goods such as muffins that resemble moss-covered rocks and cookies that resemble stepping stones, which guests can arrange on their plate as they like. They can then use chopsticks to arrange the sweets as they draw a garden, and enjoy.

This menu was overseen by garden designer Yuri Karasugaya, who has traveled to gardens around the world and worked on landscaping and giving classes both in Japan and overseas. Her aesthetic sense adds depth to the dining experience.

From inside the restaurant, you can view the garden reflecting the changing of the seasons, and the beautiful scenery is soothing. Why not spend some time reflecting on yourself with afternoon tea that is not only delicious but also exudes a sense of wabi-sabi?
