Colored wooden painting box 13.6 x 23.3 x 22cm
Born into a family of Edo joiners, Shimazaki learned traditional techniques from his father, Masanari, and has continued to hone his skills. His kumite technique, which involves meticulously assembling pieces of wood without using any nails, combines strength and beauty, and the lacquer finish brings out the unique character of the wood grain, which varies from piece to piece, creating pieces with a one-of-a-kind look.
