Oku-Arashiyama is a scenic spot where Heian aristocrats once enjoyed the four seasons. In winter, the scenery resembles a sumi-e painting, and the area is enveloped in a dignified atmosphere. This program recreates in modern times how Heian aristocrats spent their winters in this tranquil place.

For breakfast, a special menu is served on the houseboat "Hisui," which is surrounded by windows and equipped with a kotatsu table, offering a view of the winter scenery of Oku-Arashiyama all to yourself. A piping hot duck hotpot inspired by the "six kinds of incense" of the Heian period is sure to warm both body and soul.

Hoshinoya Kyoto Seasonal Baths Hoshinoya Kyoto Seasonal Baths

The baths change seasonally each month - pine water in January, daikon radish water in February - and Hoshinoya Kyoto's original bath additive, "Tokiwasure-no-yu," is a blend of domestically produced herbs, allowing you to experience a bath that will warm you from the inside out. After your bath, you can relax even more by drinking herbal tea prepared specifically for this program.

It is said that Heian aristocrats especially enjoyed the fragrance of their clothing during the winter when they wore layers of clothes to keep warm. You can also experience burning this incense in an incense burner and letting the fragrance permeate your clothes, bedding, and guest rooms, just like the Heian aristocrats.
