Yokoyama Taikan, Sacred Mount Fuji, 1939
Mount Fuji is a symbol of Japan. Famous places to view it include Miho no Matsubara, Tagonoura, and Oshino Hakkai, and there are countless mountains all over the country that are also called "Fuji," such as Satsuma Fuji (Kaimondake). Mount Fuji is such an iconic mountain that it is fitting that it be given the unique kanji character "Fuji."
Kihei Sasajima, Fuji over Lake Shoji, 1980
Nobutaka Oka, "Red Plum Blossoms and Fuji" 1990s
This exhibition will introduce beautiful and original paintings of Mount Fuji, surrounded by flowers, clouds rolling in the air, and a lake beside it. Enjoy 15 works by 10 artists: Order of Culture recipients Yokoyama Taikan, Tasaki Hirosuke, and Kataoka Tamako; printmaker Sasajima Kihei; Japanese painters Kawasaki Haruhiko, Oka Nobutaka, Kimura Keigo, and Hiramatsu Reiji; and Western-style painters Noda Yoshiko and Sakurai Takami.
