From April 15th to May 31st, 2026, Hoshinoya Karuizawa will be offering a special "Karuizawa Birdwatching Stay" program set in the nationally designated Karuizawa Wild Bird Sanctuary, known as one of Japan's leading bird-watching destinations.

Karuizawa Wild Bird Sanctuary, located within Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, is a naturally rich forest where around 80 species of birds can be observed throughout the year. In spring, migratory birds from the tropics come to breed, allowing you to observe around 25 different species of wild birds.

In this program,A private bird watching tour of Karuizawa Wild Bird Sanctuary will be held with Picchio, an expert on flora and fauna. You will deepen your observations while learning about the characteristics, behavior, and differences in the songs of birds. For observations, binoculars from SWAROVSKI OPTIK, a world-class optical equipment manufacturer, will be provided, allowing you to clearly capture the breathtakingly beautiful birds.

In addition to binoculars and telescopes, guest rooms are also equipped with mountain parkas, bird guides, original maps, special backpacks and water bottles, so you can enjoy serious bird watching at any time during your stay.

In addition, there will be an experience called "Bird Time Traveler" that will allow visitors to learn about the depths of the forest that transcend time. This will involve listening to and comparing bird songs recorded in this forest from a treasured record half a century ago with modern bird songs. Through this experience, which is like opening a time capsule planted in the forest, visitors will be able to consider what changes have occurred in the natural environment and ecosystem.
