From July 2nd (Thursday) to July 12th (Sunday), the Seiko House Hall at Wako in Ginza will host "Glass and Ceramics: A Five-Person Exhibition - Playing in Silence -". This group exhibition features works by three glass artists and two ceramic artists, showcasing pieces that exude a coolness and tranquil atmosphere befitting the height of summer.
Jun Matsumura, "A Single Landscape - Standing by the Window at Dusk," 4 x 11.4 x 12 cm (height)
The participants include glass artists Mikiko Nakano, Jun Matsumura, and Yuko Watanabe, and ceramic artists Mayumi Hamano and Kiyoko Morioka. While each uses different materials and expressions, they all pursue the beauty that resides in stillness.
Yuko Watanabe, "The Shadow of a Presence in a Flower," Diameter 16 x Height 22 cm
Mikiko Nakano creates vessels that incorporate delicate depictions of familiar plants and everyday scenes. Jun Matsumura paints nostalgic scenes and inner landscapes within layers of glass that draw the eye deeper into the piece. Yuko Watanabe combines colorful glass rods and canes to create a soft, watercolor-like world of colors.
Mayumi Hamano, "Blue and White Porcelain with Paulownia Crest," Diameter 6 x Height 6.5 cm
Meanwhile, Mayumi Hamano incorporates underglaze blue and overglaze enamel inspired by antique Imari porcelain, creating vessels that evoke a soft undulation and the warmth of handcrafted work. Kiyoko Morioka is known for her serene works based on white and gray, whose refined forms and polished textures bring a clear sense of tension to the space.
Kiyoko Morioka, "Transparent Clouds," Diameter 12.4cm x Height 34cm
Please note that artwork sales on the first and second days of the exhibition will be conducted by lottery. For details on how to apply, please check the Wako official website or inquire at the venue.
These works resonate faintly in the depths of the silence, leaving a subtle impression on the viewer. As the heat intensifies, why not enjoy some time to carefully contemplate these works?
