The color is purple, reminiscent of ripe wild grapes. The English name is Amethyst Mauve. It is a deep purple color, like the gemstone amethyst. The method of dyeing is also described in the ``Engishiki,'' and it is said that the dye was dyed with purple roots and vinegar was used to create a reddish tone.
