Momozu's roots are in Omi, now Shiga Prefecture. Centipede is said to have originated from Omi merchants as it represents money. Currently, Miyagi Prefecture is where the most Hyakusoku live, followed by Fukushima Prefecture.

"Mozusoku" is a surname pronounced "Mukade". There are also cases where it is read as ``Momotari''. There are said to be about 320 Hyakusoku-san across the country.
