Jade corn is an annual plant of the grass family, with thick, straight stems, large leaves, and golden-yellow fruits. It is said that the number of grain rows is always an even number, and the number of silk threads extending from the tip is the same as the number of grains. The warm, appetizing mix of yellow and orange is said to have become popular during the Yasunaga and Tenmei eras, around the middle of the Edo period. It is one of the world's three major grains with a strong sweetness and juiciness.
Because of its golden color, it has the flower language of ``treasure'' and ``abundance.''
