Dark green with a black tinge, resembling the stalks of horsetail, an evergreen perennial fern. It is also known as ``Kagemoegi'' because its color resembles a blue-black color. Due to its heavy and astringent color, it was popular as a clothing color for medieval samurai and the elderly. It is also a popular traditional color that attracted attention as a fashionable color during the mid-Edo period.

Horsetail stems were dried and used for polishing wood, etc. It is known as the seasonal word for autumn because it was harvested in autumn. ``Kokuzairo'' is pronounced as Tokusairo.
