Tsubaki is not a camellia, but a sasanqua, a member of the Camellia family that blooms at the beginning of winter.
It blooms red or pink flowers, and its name comes from the Chinese word ``sansa''. The flower language of sasanqua, which symbolizes this winter, is ``dedicated love,'' ``ideal love,'' and ``overcoming difficulties.'' Its origin is said to be that it blooms during the cold season when other plants wither.
