Learn about Japan's traditional colors

2023.11.10

Can you read? Japan's traditional color "Ryutaniro" is not Ryutaniro.

Ryudo, a perennial plant of the Gentiana family, Gentiana genus, is one of the plants that has been popular in Japan since ancient times. It is a flower that represents autumn with its elegant and beautiful blue-purple color. The root of Rongtan, which is used as a Chinese medicine, is said to be bitter like dragon's liver, which is why it was given the Chinese character "Rongtan". The language of flowers is "victory" and "sense of justice". The blue dragon has the flower language of ``sincerity'' and ``lonely love.''

Rindo also appears in Sei Shonagon's ``Makura no Soshi.'' It is the prefectural flower of Nagano and Kumamoto prefectures. ``Ryudo-iro'' is read as Rindo-iro.
