Asatan is derived from tan-iro, which refers to the blue color dyed with indigo, and is a pale, clear, bright blue that is lightly dyed from tan-iro. The color is reminiscent of the soft, clear surface of a lake. According to the Engishiki, a collection of laws and regulations that recorded the formalities of the imperial court in the mid-Heian period, Asatan was considered the color of the lowest-ranking, first-rank people in the morning clothes. It is also called morning sunada or morning sun, and the order of the shades of brown is dark tan, next tan, medium tan, and light tan.
Asana = Asaki Hanada
