What is Japan's traditional color "Aibocha"?
Indigo tea is a greenish-brown color that is similar to the deep yellowish brown color Aihocha with indigo added. If we were to compare it to a familiar color, it would be similar to olive brown. In the color notation of the Edo-period printed book ``Tekan Design Bushyo,'' which included color samples and explanations about kimono, it was written as ``Aikobicha, Ichimei Rikuwancha,'' and it is thought that it was the same color as Rikancha. According to one theory, it was popular in the late Edo period, around the Tenpo era.
Indigo tea = Aikobiccha
The original name of Aibocha is kelp tea. It is said that the word ``akocha'' came from the meaning of the lustrous color that appeals to the opposite sex. ``Aibocha'' is pronounced Aikobicha.
