What is Japan's traditional color "Roiro"?
Roiro is a deep and beautiful black color like black lacquer. The color name comes from ``Roiro-nuri,'' a traditional technique in which professional lacquer craftsmen use Roiro lacquer to polish, and it is also written as ``Wakuiro.'' Ryoiro, which is said to be the highest quality finish in the world of lacquer, is created by skilled craftsmen repeatedly performing the delicate process of sanding and polishing to create a glossy, mirror-like luster. It's a traditional color with a wet feel, not pure black.
Roiro = Roiro
Ryoiro also appears in the story of the Kabuki play ``Azumashita Gojusan Station'' by Shinshichi Kawatake. ``Ryoiro'' is read as Roiro.
