What is Japan’s traditional color “mushifusuma”?
The name of the insect sliding door is derived from the color of the wings of a ball beetle. It refers to the dark bluish green color of the wings of the Yamato ball beetle, which is distributed in Japan and Taiwan, and is also known as summer insect color. The wings of the ball beetle are famous for being used as raw materials for Tamamushi-no-zushi, a national treasure from the Asuka period handed down at Horyuji Temple in Nara. It is said to be a symbolic layered color.
Insect door = Mushiao
The ballad, from which the name of the color comes from, is as beautiful as a living jewel, and is used as a seasonal word for late summer in haiku. ``Mushifusuma'' is pronounced as Mushiao.
