What is Japan's traditional color "Rikancha"?
Rikancha is a dark brown color with a slight green tinge. The name of the color comes from the brown color favored by Kabuki actor Arashi Rikan I (the second generation of Arashi Kichisaburo), who appeared during the Bunka/Bunsei period (1804-30). Rikan, who was said to have good looks, a beautiful voice, and a great figure, was a great success as a star in a leading role. He is said to have split his popularity with his contemporary Nakamura Utaemon III (Shikan), and was a huge star who enlivened the Kabuki world in Osaka.

The bold, thick striped pattern worn by Rikan was called Rikan stripes. ``Rikancha'' is pronounced as Rikancha.
