What is Japan's traditional color "Tsubocha"?




The brown color is slightly gray with a reddish tinge. The name ``礪'' used in the color name comes from a whetstone called ``hayato'' used to sharpen knives, and is also written as ``tocha'' with the same pronunciation. The dyeing method is described in the ``Yacha Someguchidensho'' published in 6, and it is said that dyeing began in the early Edo period. It appears in the kosode ground colors listed in the "Shinsen Gohiinakata."

There is a traditional color called "Agarwood tea" with the same pronunciation name, but it refers to a different color from Agarwood tea. ``礪茶'' is pronounced as Tonocha.
