Can you read? A rare surname “Hitoku”! I don't read that.

``Hitokabe'' is an old family that has its roots in Hitokabe, Esashi District, Mutsu Province, a place name in present-day Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture. It is said to be the surname of the Chiba clan, which descends from the Kanmuhei clan.
This place name is said to come from the legend of Ezo, which was not under the control of the Yamato court during the Heian period. It is said that this is the place where Hitosumaru, a young boy said to be the nephew of King Akuji, the leader of the Ezo clan, barricaded himself in or was beheaded to fight the imperial army. Contrary to such a sad history, from the early modern period to the modern era, Hitoshi flourished as a post town on the Sakaido road that connected Mizusawa to Ofunato and the Olympic road that led to Tono. Before the development of railways and automobiles, it was a key transportation hub in the Tohoku region. The unusual surname Hitokubi originates from this place.
