What is the traditional Japanese color "Kamoiro"?
The deep yellow-red color of cattail can refer to both the bark of the kamazakura tree and the color of the cattail spike. Strictly speaking, kama and cattail are different colors, but in traditional colors they are sometimes treated as the same. Cattail is a perennial plant that grows in ponds and swamps throughout Japan. In summer, it produces flower stalks from between the leaves, with long, slender spikes at the end. Kabazakura is a type of wild cherry tree, and the color refers to the color of the bark.

Because cherry tree bark is strong, it was often used for making curved objects and wrapping bowstrings. "Kabairo" is pronounced "kabairo".
