What is the traditional Japanese color "Navy Kikyo"?
Konkikyo is a deep blue-purple color that resembles the blue-purple of the bellflower with a hint of navy blue. Other bluish purple colors with the name "bellflower" include bellflower purple and bellflower nado, which have slightly different hues. Bellflower is counted as one of the seven autumn herbs and is known as an autumn seasonal word in haiku, but in reality it is a flower that blooms for a long period of time, from around the rainy season until early autumn. The "bellflower crest" was created from the distinctive five-pointed star shape of the flower, and is known as the crest used by the Yamagata and Toki clans of Mino.
Navy Blue Bellflower
In dyeing, it is thought that navy blue was used as the base dye, and then purple was added on top with safflower or safflower.
