What is the traditional Japanese color "light yellow"?
As you can imagine from the name, Asagi is a pale yellow. According to the Engishiki, a compilation of formalities that constituted the implementation rules of the Ritsuryo Code, compiled in the mid-Heian period, it is a color lightly dyed with a dye called Kariyasu, which is made from the rice plant, and lye. In addition to the original reading of "usuki," it can also be read as "asaki," "asagi," or "asakiki," and is often confused with Asagi, which refers to a pale blue-green color, and in the Edo period, it was also known as "usutamago."
Light yellow = Usuki
According to one theory, the color used by the Shinsengumi for their haori coats was light yellow, not light blue. There is also a deep yellow called "Fukakikiiro" that is the opposite of light blue. "Light yellow" is pronounced "usuki".
