What is the traditional Japanese color "hanaasagi"?
Hanaasagi, a pale blue-green color, is a traditional color made by adding flower color to the pale blue-green color known as "asagi." Flower color is a blue color dyed with a single indigo dye. Originally, it was a color dyed with the blue juice of the kamo-gashira flower (an old name for the dayflower), and later the indigo-dyed indigo (hanada) also came to be called hanairo. Asagi was named after its resemblance to the color of pale green onions, and hanaasagi is a particularly gorgeous and bright color among them.
Hanaasagi = Flower Asagi
Hanaasagi became popular towards the end of the Edo period, and was used especially for women's kimonos and obi. "Hanaasagi" is pronounced "hanaasagi."
