What is the traditional Japanese color "Ichiiiro"?
Ichii-iro is a light brown with a reddish tint. Its name is said to come from the "ichii" tree. This ichii tree has a long history and is one of Japan's most ancient trees. The scepters used by priests are made from yew, and Emperor Nintoku bestowed the shakui with the highest rank at a shrine, hence the name "ichii." This highly durable wood was once prized as a building material for shrines and temples, and as a material for weapons.
