What is the traditional Japanese color "Momijiiro"?
As the name suggests, autumn leaves are a deep red color like maple leaves that change color in autumn. As a botanical name, maple means maple tree, and is written in kanji as "momiji" or "yellow leaves." The word "momiji" itself is a noun derived from the ancient verb "momizu." It means that plants turn yellow or red. Maple leaves are particularly beautiful among trees, and so maples came to be commonly called "momiji."
