What is the traditional Japanese color "Tobi-iro"?
The color is said to have been named after the color of black kite's feathers, but it is actually a darker reddish brown than the color of the black kite. During the Edo period, colors based on black kite appeared one after another, such as Benitaka, Murasakitobi, and Kurotobi. Color names derived from black kite include Tobicha, Tobiguro, and Aitobi.
Brown = Tobiiro
Black kites are known for their unique cry of "peehyororo" and are also famous for having excellent eyesight compared to other birds. "Black kite color" is pronounced "tobiiro".
