What is the traditional Japanese color "Danjuro Tea"?
Danjuro brown is a dull reddish brown known as the color used for the stage costumes of the great Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro for generations. This color became especially famous for being used for the plain robe in "Shibaraku," one of the Kabuki plays. Even today, this color is worn for the kamishimo (formal Japanese men's attire) at the Danjuro name succession ceremony. As expressed in a Kabuki line, "preening the feathers of a plain robe made of persimmon," Danjuro brown is a warm color similar to the color of persimmon.
Danjuro tea = Danjurocha
Danjuro tea was also used on the costumes bearing the Ichikawa family crest, the Misuzu crest. "Danjuro tea" is pronounced "danjuro-cha."
