What is the traditional Japanese color "lye color"?




Ash color, a yellowish gray, is a traditional Japanese color that has been used since ancient times and is dyed with ash. Ash is the supernatant liquid made by soaking the ashes from burning wood or leaves in water, and was used for mordant dyeing, laundry, bleaching, etc. Ash color is a cloudy color obtained in the early stages of ash processing, and is characterized by its unique hue that is slightly yellowish.
