What is the traditional Japanese color "Onadocha"?




Onando-cha is a dark blue-green color that is the result of adding brown elements to the dark greenish blue "Onando-iro." The origin of the name is said to be recorded in the Edo period essay "Guzo-cho." According to one story, a kimono shop was storing some indigo-brown silk in the storeroom of his mansion, and over time the color changed, taking on a unique and beautiful hue. He named it "Nando-cha" and started selling it, which became a huge hit.

The tea colors that were popular during the Edo period were divided into three categories: red tea, yellow tea, and green tea, and Onandocha is a type of green tea that changes color.
