What is the traditional Japanese color "Kuhi"?
Benihi is an ancient color characterized by its yellowish red color, mainly dyed with safflower. It is a vivid scarlet color created by layering yellow dyes such as gardenia and turmeric. Unlike "ake," which is dyed with madder, it is characterized by a stronger reddish hue than the original scarlet color. Benihi's vivid and noble color was often used in formal occasions in traditional Japanese culture, and its beauty is still praised today.
Benihi = Crimson
After the Edo period, this red came to be commonly used as "scarlet" and was also used as the color of hakama worn by court ladies. "Red" is pronounced "benihito".
