What is the traditional Japanese color "Coral Vermilion"?
Vermilion coral is a vivid orange color with a strong reddish hue. Its name comes from red coral, which is considered to be especially rare among coral gemstones. It has been a color highly valued in Japan and China since ancient times, and coral gemstones come in three colors: white, pink, and red, with the red ones being the most prized. Among them, those with a strong reddish hue were called "red coral (vermilion coral)" and those with a paler hue were called "fixed coral." Powdered coral pigments are resistant to fading, so there are records of them being used in paintings and ink pads in China during the Song Dynasty.
