What is the traditional Japanese color "Kinparu-iro"?




Kinparu color, a striking vibrant blue with a greenish tinge, is a color that is now also known as "turquoise blue." The origin of this name dates back to the mid-Meiji period, when bright blue-green colors made from imported chemical dyes were in fashion and were favored by Shimbashi geisha. At the time, this color was popular as a sophisticated color and was also called "Shinbashi color." It was also nicknamed "Kinparu color" because the geisha's brothels were located on "Kinparu Shindo." It was also used in paintings of beautiful women by Japanese painters Kaburaki Kiyokata and Uemura Shōen, and was popular as a color that brought out the elegant beauty of women.
