Ojaku tea is a yellowish-brown color with a strong brown tint, and is also written as "Ogared tea." The "Dyeing Methods" from the end of the Edo period describes a method of dyeing brown, yellow-hued tea, and Edo tea using a mixture of peach skin and black bark, along with mud. Ojaku tea was popular from the early to mid-Edo period, and was widely enjoyed by both pleasure quarters and townsfolk. The deep yellowish-brown color is thought to have been popular as a color that creates a chic atmosphere.
