What is the traditional Japanese color "camellia"?
Camellia, known as the color name for the winter camellia, refers to a vibrant deep pink with a reddish tint. Camellias are native to the Orient and were brought back to Europe by the Czechoslovakian missionary GJ Camellus around the 17th century, hence the name "camellia" in English. They later became widely known through French playwright Alexandre Dumas fils's "La Traviata." With their oriental charm and the fact that they bloom during a season when few other flowers are in season, they are beloved by many people today.
Camellia = Tsubaki
Camellias are evergreen tall or shrubs in the Theaceae family that bloom from winter to early spring in some regions. The flowers come in a variety of colors, including crimson, pale pink, deep crimson purple, and white. "Tsubaki" is pronounced "tsubaki."
