What is the traditional Japanese color "moegi"?




Moegi refers to a bright, clear yellow-green color, like young leaves sprouting in spring. It is one of the traditional colors that has been used since ancient times, and in the Teijo Zakki (1843), a commentary on court etiquette and customs, it is stated that "moegi" is the color of leaves sprouting in spring, and that it should be correctly written as "moegi-iro." Nowadays, it is sometimes written as "moegi-iro" or "moegi-iro," and when written as "moegi," it is characterized by the fact that it often refers to a darker green color.

Light green has been a popular symbol of spring since ancient times, and was used to dye the clothes of nobles and samurai, as well as kimonos.
