What is the traditional Japanese color "Yanagicha"?
Yanagicha is a dull yellow-green color, like a layer of brown over the yellow-green of willow leaves. In dye classification, "Somemono Juhoki" (1811) places it in the light brown category, but in terms of hue, it belongs to the blue-brown category. Also, the color sample of Ikocha in "Tekagami Moyo Setsuyo" states that it is "also called Ikocha or Yanagicha," and the two are considered to be the same color. Iko refers to Tokugawa Yorifusa, and it is said that the name "Ikocha" came from his preference for the color.
Willow tea = Yanagicha
Willow tea was a popular color in the mid-Edo period, and its subdued, elegant hue was adopted by both commoners and samurai alike. "Willow tea" is pronounced "yanagicha."
