What is Japan's traditional color "Chitose Green"?

Chitose Midori is a deep, calming green reminiscent of pine needles. The color's name comes from the meaning "a green that remains unchanged even after a thousand years," and in association with the evergreen pine tree, it is considered a symbol of longevity and eternity. In the late Heian period story "Sagomo Monogatari," costumes featuring multiple layers of the deep green of pine appear, suggesting that people at the time found special meaning in this color. Pine trees have long been considered trees inhabited by gods, and were an essential part of celebrations and folk events. Chitose Midori is said to have been dyed by crossing indigo and kariyasu, and its natural, deep green exudes both calmness and strength.
