What is the traditional Japanese color "Sakura-iro"?
Sakura-iro is a pale crimson color named after cherry blossoms that bloom in the spring sunshine. It is also used to describe a slightly intoxicated face or rosy skin, and is said to give a soft and lovely impression. The name "sakura" (cherry blossom) is also often used to describe pale crimson objects such as sakura shrimp, sakura sea bream, and sakura shells. In terms of dyeing, a large amount of safflower is needed to achieve a deep dye, making it extremely expensive and considered a luxury item beyond the reach of ordinary people.
