Hachimantai is "Hachimantai"The name of this place is said to have originated from the legend of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, who went to conquer the Emishi during the Enryaku era of the Nara period. After defeating the bandits hiding around Mt. Iwate, he prayed for lasting military fortune, enshrined the deity Ojin Hachiman, and praised the magnificent scenery that unfolded before his eyes, which is why it came to be called "Hachimantai."
