A place name in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture. The city name "Tome" is generally pronounced "Tome," but the name of the former town within the city, "Tome-cho," is different.





Toyome Town, which once existed in northeastern Miyagi Prefecture, is a historic town that flourished as a castle town from the Edo period through the Meiji period. The townscape known as "Miyagi's Meiji Village" remains to this day. Spread across the plains along the Kitakami River, the town is dotted with cultural assets such as samurai residences, storehouse-style merchant houses, and Western-style architecture from the Meiji period, and is also a tourist resource that conveys the history and lifestyle of the region.






The origins of Tome Town are ancient, and there is a record in the Nara period "Shoku Nihongi" that it was written as "Toyama Village," which is said to be the origin of the town's name.

Toyoma Town means "Toyomamachi"The city's name is "Tome," but the town it was a part of before the merger, "Tome-cho," is pronounced "Toyoma," so it's easy to get confused. During the great mergers of the Heisei era, the name as a town was abolished.
