[Difficult to read place name] How do you read it? Nibuchi is not pronounced "Same? Fuchi?"

Supervised by Premium Japan Editorial Department

Located in a corner of Noshiro city in northern Akita Prefecture, Niibuchi is a land that once made its way as an independent village.

The area is located in a lowland where the Hiyama River flows gently down, surrounded by a series of settlements and rivers, and people have lived alongside water since ancient times. The landscape created by the river and plains still lives on today as the original landscape of this region.

According to historical records, the area separated from Tajiri Village in the late 17th century during the Enpo era of the Edo period and came to be called "Nanibuchi." Since then, the place name has remained unchanged, quietly preserving the memory of the land.

If you visit Niibuchi, you'll want to experience the local flavors. You can enjoy local Akita cuisine, including Noshiro udon noodles, which are characterized by their thick, robust texture. Many dishes make use of the river's bounty, and the flavors of a lifestyle nurtured in harmony with nature are directly reflected on the dining table.

Kairagibuchi

Kairagibuchi is a deep pool of water. The character "鰄" means fish, and "ふ" means deep water, so the name strongly reflects the scenery of the waterside. There are various theories about its origin, including that it is named after the fish that once lived in the deep waters, or that it represents the complex and winding topography of the river.
