The place name Shisui is said to come from the "Legend of the Sake Well" that has been passed down in this area for a long time. One theory is that the place came to be called "Sake Well" from the story of a filial young man who was looking for sake for his father, who loved alcohol, when sake began to flow from the well, and that this was later changed to Shisui.
On the other hand, the area around Lake Inban is an area rich in spring water, and it is said that the auspicious character "sake" was used to refer to the sound of the area, which was called "shusui" (spring water). Either theory conveys the local character, where water and wells were deeply connected to people's lives.
There is a legend about the "Sake Well," in which a filial son drew water from a well and turned it into sake. The area has developed into a logistics hub for traditional sake breweries (such as Iinuma Honke), food industries, and is close to Narita International Airport.
